Things are tough all over--unless you're in the running for the Nobel Peace Prize

President Obama won the Nobel Peace Prize this morning. Apparently all that is required is for you to travel around the world, bow to kings, and apologize for America and you win. Yasser Arafat was a murderer, but at least he did something before he won the NPP.

My wife first told me about this. Times really are hard if the guys who make the AK-47 can't stay afloat financially. Speaking of AK-47s, check out this sweet little number from J&G Sales.
They have some great deals at the moment, including some 2-for-1 AK rifle + 500 rounds of 7.62x39. It is stupid of me to even be looking at guns right now; I need all my resources for beekeeping equipment and hand tools. I don't even have a proper gate for my road! I have enough guns (if I say it enough maybe I'll start to believe it).

And speaking of bees, my first hive body from Miller Bee Supply came last week, but I have yet to assemble it. My next purchase of a hive body will be from Brushy Mtn. Bee Supply. I wish now I had gone with them first, but it will be interesting to see which equipment seems best.

What I'm Reading Right Now:
First Lessons in Beekeeping by Dadant. First published in 1917 and with new content added in the 1960s. It really is interesting to see how little things have changed. Sitting on my desk is Why Israel Can't Wait by Dr. Jerome Corsi (of World Net Daily), which I can't wait to dive into. He apparently argues that Israel may be forced to strike to wipe out Iran's nukes before the world can make Iran see reason. I think he is right. I'll post Monday the link to a WSJ article by Bret Stephens that scared the hell out of me; about Israel being forced by the UN to come clean with its nuclear arsenal.

Pray for Israel,

Where are you weakest in your preparations?

The question was posed over at www.thesurvivalistblog.net, "what is your biggest failure in your SHTF preps?"

A good question, I thought, and here is my answer:

"I have a good number of rechargable batteries and the small solar kit to charge them. I am not planning on having the option to use household electricity when the balloon goes up, just flashlights and radios. The power goes out frequently where we live so it won't be any great hardship for us to do without.

I think I have enough food to get us through a winter until the garden can produce in the spring. I have enough water to last until the the spring can run clean again, I hope.

We have ammo and guns, and the medkit is in decent shape. We have extra boots, and good warm clothes. We have enough camping gear to live in the woods for a longish time, if need be.

The things that I don't have that keep me up at night might sound strange, but I worry that I don't have a decent hand saw to cut firewood with after the gas for the chainsaw runs out. Big, two-handled hand saws run nearly $400, and I don't know when I will have that kind of money. I also am lacking some basic tools that I think I may need. I need some chisels, a rabbet plane, calipers, a drawknife etc.

I also wish I had some better connections to other like-minded preppers with important skills. My "clan" right now contains some good hunters, gardeners and people who are mechanically able. What we don't have are real medical personnel, or anyone with real military experience. So what I need most are people!"

What I didn't mention is that I have done nothing to keep goats or chickens, as per my long range plans, but I have made a good start on my beekeeping, and there has been definite progress on the garden. More on these small successes in future posts.

I'm sorry that I started this blog, and then just abandoned it. I will endeavor to do better.

Pray for Israel,
